The speculation around The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
