Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
